A Family Man and Military Veteran
I was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1946. As my father was a career Air Force officer, I almost immediately began my world travels. I served an LDS Mission in Western Canada from 1966-67. I met my wife Linda C. Hayes and we were married in 1969. After 50 years of marriage we have been blessed with three sons and one daughter, who have given us sixteen grandchildren, the joys of our lives.
I retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2001 as a Senior Master Sargent after 30 years of service. My training included Aircraft Logistics, Facilities Mgt., Munitions Mgt. and Disaster Preparedness/Response, Non-Commissioned Officers Academy and Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. I was deployed during the Vietnam conflict and four times during the Middle East conflicts. My other professional career was as a secondary public school teacher. I taught AP Geography, American Hist. and Comparative Political Systems. I also served as the Social Studies Dept. Chair, School Improvement Leader, Student Teacher Mentor and member of the District Building Committee.
After moving to Vineyard in 2013, I began attending town meetings. This led me to serve as a public member of the Town Center Design and Form Based Code Committee. My experiences led me to believe that my broad systems, management and budgetary experience were needed. So I ran for Town Council in 2015. At that time the town population was about 400. In four years the Town is now a City of 14 thousand and growing. The challenges were large in 2015 and today they are magnified by our record growth.
